Queering the Lens

In conjunction with the premiere of Queer Genius, Lightbox will present a selection of groundbreaking nonfiction films that re-imagine or “queer” the form of documentary, incorporating poetry, reenactment and found footage. The program includes major works by Su Friedrich, Barbara Hammer (one of the subjects of Queer Genius) and Marlon Riggs.

Concurrently, Lightbox is partnering with Da Vinci Art Alliance to present Civil Disobedience: Celebrating Queer Narratives, a group exhibition coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. This political, personal, and timely exhibition, juried by Warren Muller of Bahdeebahdu, will feature a mixture of photographs, paintings, and mixed media artworks on display in the East Alcove Gallery at International House Philadelphia from April 2 – June 29, 2019, open daily 8am – 10pm.
