A Letter from the Director

Dear Friends of Lightbox Film Center,

I know this is a challenging time for all us. As we continue to stay home and isolate ourselves in order to fight the spread of COVID-19, the arts and cultural institutions that bring us together have closed their doors for an indeterminant time. No matter what is happening in our communities and the world around us, the arts are crucial in bringing us together and expanding our view of human creativity.

I’m thrilled that we have the technological means to connect with you virtually and continue offering film screenings online, but nothing compares to seeing a film on the big screen in a theater with your fellow cinephiles. Our recent move to University of the Arts is an exciting chapter in the story of our organization, and we have big plans for this new partnership.

Over the years, we have expanded our community and strengthened our program in many ways, and we have every intention to continue to do so. We are committed to presenting exceptional cinema that often defies categorization and demonstrates the breadth and depth of film history, making us more than just a movie theater. We know this is the kind of cinema you want to be a part of, and we value your support. Though there is no clear timeline for reopening our theater, rest assured we will once again open our doors and welcome you back to experience cinema in our new home at 401 S. Broad St.

As we look ahead, we would like to offer all members who signed up after Dec. 12, 2019, an extension of your membership for a full year, beginning on our prospective date of reopening. In the meantime, we will provide updates on our program, along with special online content, while we continue to plan for the weeks and months ahead. We encourage you to take the necessary steps to keep you and your loved ones safe and healthy during this uncertain time and look forward to welcoming you back to Lightbox once it is safe and feasible to do so.

Thank you,

Jesse Pires, Director & Curator
